Knights Knews
2011
Christmas Tree Sales Our council
sold approximately 175 Christmas Trees this. Once again the location was at the Dairy Queen
Restaurant on Milford Road right next to the entrance to Kensington Metro Park. This year's
tree selection included scotch pine, douglas fir, frazer fir, and concolor. As the past few years, the trees
were beautiful and fresh cut. We have been purchasing our Michigan grown trees
for over 20 years from the same grower, Tim Barrett. Thank-you Tim for once
again supplying us with quality and fresh trees. Our profit was just over $5,000.00 and the proceeds
from the sales went to our Christmas Food Basket program (see below)
and allows our council
to be the primary sponsor of next year's Huron Valley Special Olympics. A special thank-you to
all the brave Kights who endured the weather and dedicated their time to set up the tree racks and trees,
sold trees and tear down the tree racks. The local boy scout troop helped us
set up trees on Friday, November 25th and once again we were very fortunate to receive
help from young men and women doing community service from the 52nd Court. We are very thankful
for their help and wish them best of luck. Thank-you to our customers who purchased a
tree and to the owners of Dairy Queen for once again allowing us to sell
trees in your parking lot. Finally we are
very grateful for our 4 co-charimen, Don Green, Bob Sobczak, Mike Hudspeth and Mike Wojnar. Job well done men.
Christmas Food Baskets This year
our council was able to provide Christmas Food Baskets to 40 unfortunate and deserving families in the
Milford area. Once again, canned goods were received from the students from Milford
High School. Thank-you to Mrs. 'O' and fellow teachers and students who collected hundreds
of cans and delivered them to St. Mary's Church. Thank-you to those who purchased
turkeys and contributed them to the cause. Monies from our Council's Christmas Tree
sales allowed us to purchase the remaining food from Milford Butcher and Milford Grocery. The meat
were top nothced. And a special thank-you to this year's chairperson's Stephan and Kathy LaFave
and to all those brother Knight who helped out collecting boxes, purchasing and sorting the food,
boxing the food and loading the boxes into the cars. It was a lot of work and heavy lifting
but we couldn't have done this without all your help. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.
Council Spelling Bee Our council
sponsored its annual Spelling Bee Contest at Country Oaks Elementry School on November 15th.
This year we had 40 students representing Kurtz, Johnson, Muir, Heritage and Country Oaks School.

of your accomplishments. Good luck in Fenton.

St. Mary's Trunk-of-Treats Security Once again our
council flexed it's muscle and provided security at this year's St. Mary's Trunk-of-Treats.
For the second year in a row, we were treated to some dry weather for a change. Thanks to all who attended and we
hope to see you again next year.
St. Judes Benefit Dinner a Big Hit Our council's 6th annual St.
Judes Research Hospital Fund Raiser was
held on Saturday, October 16th at St. Mary's Hall. This year's dinner was an
international theme and wouldn'thave been a sucess without the help of the great
merchants of Milford.
Thank-you to Pete and Bruce Holden for the delicious chickend; to Cathy and Chris Baker
for the Asian food; to Tamy Bucinski of Prissy B's Catering for the stuffed cabbage; to Mike,

Mentally Impaired Tootsie Roll Drive
This past fall, during the weekend of October 14 - 16, we had another Mentally Impaired
Tootsie Roll Drive. This year, our Brother Knights were treated to
some typical autumn weather and collected just over $6,000.00, which
netted over $4,600. Those monies will be distributed to some of the charities
local to Milford, including Lee Homes, SCAMP, Advance Teaching Concepts,
Ark of Oakland, and H.V.S. Department of Mentally Impaired. Congratulations to Harley Thome for running the show and all the
generous Brother Knights for donating time to this event. Monies will be distributed
in the near future.
St. Jude 50/50 Raffle Our council held it's annual 50/50
raffle tickets on Sunday September 4th at the classic car auto show at Baker's restaurant. Tickets were sold
sold from 1:00pm to 6:00pm and raised $164.00. Those proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
A special thanks to Brothers Tony M, Bill M, John H, and Mike H (and son) for selling those tickets. St. Judes Hospital thanks you for standing on your feet for several hours volunterring time on the holiday weekend.
St. Jude Golf Outing
On Sunday, August 28, we had our annual St. Jude Golf Outing. This year's event took place
at Mystic Creek Golf Course in Camp Dearborn, with over 22 four-somes participating. The outing
included a continental breakfast, shot gun start, lunch at the turn, and buffet dinner. This year's dinner
was awesome, especially the cheesecake desert.
We also had a putting contest, closest to the pin, longest drive and a goody bag. We collected over $4,500.00 at
this year's outing and that money will be sent to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, TN. Congratulations to all those
participated and won prizes, but mostly for participating in this worthwhile event. A special thank-you
to all those who hit the turf and collected prizes for the outing.
We even had great weather this year. This was our largest participation and we look
forward to bigger and better things next year. Job well done Rob and Pat MacMain, along with
John Rogers and other brother Knights who helped out this year.
Milford's Concert in the Park
Once again this past summer, our council served some of the best hamburgers,
hot dogs and sausage at Milford's Concert in the Parks. A special thanks to this year's co-chairmen
Paul Castiglione and Bill McMillan. Job well done for leading us to seven successful evenings.
And we couldn't have done it without all the brother Knights who helped setting up the trailer,
cooking the food, collecting the money, and cleaning up. It wasn't all hard work as
we were provided with some great entertainment. This year, we didn't have
a rain out although we missed one concert due to extreme heat and humnity. A special thank-you to Milford Butchers,
Milford Grocery and Gordon Food Services for providing
our council with quality food, service and prices. We were able to net $2623.36 which will
be added to our council's general charity fund.
Detroit Tiger Game
On Friday, July 15, our Council organized a Tiger Game outing. Although attendance was down
this year, one bus was used to
deliver the fans to and safely back home. This year's game ended in a loss for our beloved Tigers but
we were treated to some awesome fireworks after the game. As usual adult beverages were served on the buses
and this year, we didn't run out. Great job Bob 'Skipper' Sobzcak for organizing
this year's game.
Lenten Fish Fry Dinners
Our council's Lenten Fish Fries concluded on Friday, April 15th. Our council thanks all those
who came out on Friday nights to enjoy a great fish dinner and support our council.
We were able to raise approximately $4,000.00 from this year's fish fries.
This money will be added to our Council's general charity fund. A huge

who also helped out, noteable Cindi Sobczak, Carolyn Dickinson and Marilyn Rogers.
Our council purchased a third deep fryer after the 2nd week. This enabled is to cook the
fried fish and french fries much quicker, thus cutting down on wait time for orders and
refills. Bob Sobzcak and Pete Essenmacher and their wives did an outstanding job cleaning the kitchen.
It looks cleaner than it has in many years. Great job you four.
Finally, a big shout out to the Purple Gang, the students who will be going to Appalachia on their mission trip.
Thanks for setting up, serving the people and clean-up afterwards. Thanks to Val Thompson
and Judy Vance (JV) for working so hard and long every Friday night. We couldn't have done it
without you. The Knights will be praying for their trip to be safe, happy, and productive. Best wishes 'ya all.
Pancake Breakfast
Our council held a pancake breakfast on
Sunday, January 16th and on Sunday, April 3 after the 8:00 and 10:00 masses. Over 200 meals were served netting a profit of over $300.00.
The menu included pancakes, sausage,
eggs, biscuits and gravy, fruit cocktail and refreshments. A special thank-you to Ken Gregory for
chairing this event and to all the Brother Knights who got early, got the food cooking, and helped
clean the kitchen afterwards. The money from this event will be added to our council's
general charity fund. Please note this will be our last Pancake Breakfast. We appreciate
all the patrons and Knights who helped out over the past several years. Thank-you.
