Knights Knews 2010

Christmas Tree Sales
Our council sold nearly 200 Christmas Trees this. Once again the location was at the Dairy Queen Restaurant on Milford Road right next to the entrance to Kensington Metro Park. This year's tree selection included scotch pine, douglas fir, frasier fir, and concolor. There was a rumor that someone saw a few balsam's in the mix. As the past few years, the trees were beautiful and fresh cut. Our profit was just over $5,300.00 and the proceeds from the sales went to our Christmas Food Basket program (see below). A special thank-you to all the brave Kights who endured the weather and dedicated their time to set up the tree racks and trees, sold trees and tear down the tree racks. This year we were very fortunate to receive help from young men and women doing community service from the 52nd Court. We are very thankful for their help and wish them best of luck. Thank-you to our customers who purchased a tree and to those Brother Knights who made chili and brought it to our trailer and to the owners of Dairy Queen for once again allowing us to sell trees in your parking lot. Finally we are very grateful for our 3 co-charimen, Don Green, Bob Sobczak and Mike Wojnar. Job well done men.

Christmas Food Baskets
This year our council was able to provide Christmas Food Baskets to 29 unfortunate and deserving families in the Milford area. Once again, canned goods were received from the students from Milford High School. Thank-you to Mrs. 'O' and fellow teachers and students who collected hundreds of cans and delivered them to St. Mary's Church. Thank-you to those who purchased turkeys and contributed them to the cause. Monies from our Council's Christmas Tree sales allowed us to purchase the remaining food from Milford Butcher and Milford Grocery. The meat were top nothced. And a special thank-you to this year's chairperson's Stephan and Kathy LaFave and to all those brother Knight who helped out collecting boxes, purchasing and sorting the food, boxing the food and loading the boxes into the cars. It was a lot of work and heavy lifting but we couldn't have done this without all your help. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.

And we couldn't have done it without all the brother Knights who helped setting up the trailer, cooking the food, collecting the money, and cleaning up. It wasn't all hard work as we were provided with some great entertainment. Even mother nature provided some of her own entertainment this year. A special thank-you to Milford Butchers for providing our council with quality food and prices. We were able to net almost $1500.00 which will be added to our council's general charity fund.
